Family Tree
graphite drawing

Family Tree depicts a four hundred old white oak tree that used to stand intact in Russell County in our southwest Virginia region. One day while examining it closely, I began to see faces in the gnarled bark shapes, and thus was born my idea for a literal “family tree.” Our son, as a young boy, looks up at first, his parents, and then at his grandparents on my side of the family, and then finally, at his grandparents on my husband’s side of the family. This drawing is owned by my Mom.
