Realizing the Dream was inspired by the writings, teachings, and living example of Jesus, Henry David Thoreau, Mahatmah Ghandi, Dr. Martin Luther King, and Mother Theresa in the way of non-violence. My attempts to adapt this way of life began being nurtured in the 1960s by my college professor, then Dean of Chapel Ira G. Zepp, Jr. I was further inspired by the example of my husband Don who, as a conscientious objector, struggled to obtain that status during the time of the Vietnam War, and I have recently been buoyed in this way of thinking and acting by the efforts and teachings of Pam Zappardino and Charles Collyer who initiated the Ira and Mary Zepp Center for Non-Violence & Peace Studies (E-mail: collier@uri.edu) at McDaniel College.
This painting is woned by the artist.
