Domingos Flowers evolved as a result of my summer acquaintance with a Latino migrant worker, a student in my watercolor workshop at Common Ground on the Hill in Maryland, who at the end of the week presented me with handmade traditional Mexican paper flowers. The painting represents his peoples struggles as farm laborers and immigrants and reformers in Caesar Chavezs grape boycott movement; yet bright flowers and ladders of hope remain resilient against the stormy skies, as does Domingos smile.
