Health and Safety in the Mines
by Thomas Hagerman

After unionization and labor-minded legislation brought attention to the hazards of underground mining, positive changes in health and safety procedures in mining developed. As shown here, the regulation by safety inspectors and mine foremen of safe practices in the mines has provided more security for the responsible miner. Technological advances, such as the mechanized roof bolter in the background, have also lessened the risks for the underground miner.
